Trevor had instructed Mo to meet him at West Beckham cemetery, which, as it was surrounded by farmland, was not overlooked by anyone.

Starkins’ facial expressions worsened as they went deeper into the dark lanes. He was now deeply worried about his future—if he had one. It took close to the anticipated fifteen minutes for them to arrive, and Mo drove slowly into the cemetery where, as expected, another car was waiting.

‘Bring him,’ he told his colleagues in the back, relishing his role.

With straight faces, Rory and Clive did as they were told, and dragged the now whimpering Starkins over to Trevor’s car. As he got out of the driver’s seat, they pushed Starkins to his knees.

‘Well, now. If it isn’t the infamous Bradley Starkins, as I live and breathe,’ Trevor said, in his most menacing voice.

‘S... s... s … sir, there must be some mistake,’ Starkins snivelled. ‘I’ve been working that patch for a year. Please believe me.’

‘I don’t give a shit about that, boy,’ Trevor continued, ‘but I do give a shit about your friends who have set themselves up nicely around here. It’s very, very disrespectful, you know?’

‘M... m… my friends? Who do you m... m… m … mean, sir?’

‘You know who I mean,’ Trevor said, flicking Starkins on the forehead, ‘don’t test my patience, boy. Those bikers seem very friendly with you.’

‘Oh… oh, you mean the Rejects? They’re not my friends, sir, they’re my suppliers. Well, apart from—’

‘Apart from what?’ Trevor pushed.

‘N… nothing important, sir,’ Starkins whimpered.

Trevor looked up at his men and said, ‘He’s a waste of my time. You know what to do.’

‘I’ll get the machete, boss,’ Mo said, moving towards Trevor’s car.

‘W… wait! Please, w… wait!’ shouted Starkins.

‘What is it, Bradley?’ Trevor asked. ‘Last chance, or you lose fingers. Your call.’

‘W… w… what I wanted to say is that they’re not my friends, apart from George.’

‘George? Who the hell is George?’ he pressed.

‘He… he… he’s my… brother, sir,’ Starkins replied. It wasn’t what Trevor had been expecting and took him completely by surprise. It took only a second for him to compose himself and continue.

‘Your brother is a member of the Rejects?’

‘Y… y… yes, sir.’

‘Well? Is that it? Or do I need to get the machete?’

‘My… my… my brother George is Hawk, s… sir.’

It took a couple of extra seconds for that information to soak in.

‘Your brother is the leader of the Rejects? The one with those stupid-ass eyes?’

‘Y… yes, sir. W… w… well, he’s my half-brother, but yes, the one with the scary eyes.’

‘Well, you could knock me down with a feather, Mister Starkins. I did not see that one coming,’ Trevor said, thinking fast. ‘Did you guys see that coming?’

‘Nope. No, sir,’ came the replies.

‘Anything else you want to tell me, while we’re so friendly here? Remember, I have a machete and I’ll use it,’ Trevor continued. ‘Why have the Rejects—your brother—why have they come to this part of the world, suddenly?’

Starkins looked horrified, thinking that he had offered enough information to be spared.
